01 What the level means
Stay alert. Do not assume an attack is imminent.
The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre and MI5 set the national threat level. It is an assessment of likelihood, not a prediction of a specific place or time, and it can change without an expiry date. Organisations should verify the official level regularly and translate relevant changes through their own competent risk, emergency and communications arrangements.
