FREC 3 is a pre-hospital care qualification for people who need more depth than workplace first aid. It develops structured patient assessment, immediate life support, trauma and medical-emergency management within the learner’s scope of practice.

01Is FREC 3 the same as an ambulance qualification?+
No. FREC 3 is a defined pre-hospital qualification with its own scope. It should not be described as making someone a paramedic or automatically authorising an ambulance role.
02Is prior first-aid experience needed?+
Entry requirements depend on the awarding organisation and course specification. A sound first-aid foundation and readiness for practical scenarios are valuable.
03How much practical work is involved?+
The course is practical and scenario-led. Learners should expect hands-on assessment, patient management and demonstration of competence as well as theory.
